It seems like Stephanie Vaquer is already hogging some limelight before even making her on-screen debut in WWE. This past weekend, she competed on back-to-back nights at live events in Mexico City and Monterrey. The former CMLL Women’s Champion beat Isla Dawn in both of her matches. But what stood out from those appetizers was a maneuver that has captured the imagination of the WWE Universe.
As shown in the video below, Vaquer could be seen slamming Dawn’s face into the mat while maintaining a reverse hold around her neck. She did that to further decapacitate one-half of the reigning Women’s Tag Team Champion. As it stands, WWE has yet to announce what’s next for Stephanie Vaquer. She did say that she’d soon stop by NXT, which was in sync with Shawn Michaels‘ formal invitation to the Chilean wrestler to come meet him in Orlando.
What a difference can a couple of weeks make? It’s better to ask Steph, as she’s been on the receiving end of it. Back on June 30, she competed at AEW Forbidden Door. However, the result didn’t land in her favor as El Primera dropped her NJPW Strong Women’s title to Mercedes Mone. And earlier last week, she inked a multi-year agreement with WWE.
Everything panned out hastily, including Stephanie’s abrupt departure from CMLL and NJPW. The higher-ups were reportedly upset at how Vaquer bailed out of the rosters. She had a few future dates lined up that had to be canceled at the eleventh hour. In yet another interesting tidbit, the Latino grappler was never seriously in the fray to sign with AEW, despite Tony Khan offering her a deal. She instead chose WWE, which she had dreamt of joining since a very young age.
Fans are already mind blown after seeing Stephanie Vaquer wrestle in WWE
While there’s almost everything the WWE fans have yet to see out of Stephanie Vaquer, she’s already given some glimpses of what to expect from her. As mentioned above, she seemingly has an inverted facebuster in her moveset that might become popular among fans in no time.
The netizens actually had a field day reacting to Vaquer’s initial exploits. One account noted how NXT commentator Booker T will have a fun time calling her out once The Gladiator joins the Gold and White brand.
Some fans also pointed out how Charlotte Flair used to perform the aforementioned move early in her career. Nonetheless, it would be interesting to see what Stephanie’s capable of in due time. She recently got that stamp of approval from World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest.
