SPIRIT LAKE, Idaho (CBS2) — A 27-year-old Idaho man tried to outsmart police in northern Idaho after officials say he tried to elude police by running onto a frozen lake.
The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to the area of Nautical Loop and Highway 41 in Spirit Lake on Tuesday for a report of a suspicious person.
Later, police say they spotted a man in a car speeding down the road and stopping near Spirit Lake, which is frozen.
While police were trying to stop the suspect, later identified as Devin D. Denny, a report came into 911 of a shop fire near Nautical Loop, which was fully engulfed.
Eventually, Denny was taken into custody.
It's unknown if the suspect is associated with the fire, but police are investigating. The sheriff's office says Denny has been arrested or charged 11 times since 2009 for alcohol and driving offenses.
He's been charged with felony burglary, theft, obstructing and drug paraphernalia.
