Red Bull Technical Advisor, Helmut Marko has taken a dig at Alpine F1 driver Pierre Gasly with regards to his time racing for the Milton-Keynes Outfit. Marko claimed that Gasly developed an incorrect notion of being at the same level as Max Verstappen during his 2019 Red Bull run.

Pierre Gasly joined Red Bull in 2019, Max Verstappen was a rising sensation at the time for the team and Gasly was unable to win or score a podium in 12 races, after which he was sacked ahead of the summer break.

Helmut Marko elaborated that Gasly’s underperformance came down to probable overconfidence by the Frenchman after a strong run at Toro Rosso (RB). Marko has said that many drivers make the mistake of envisioning great things before proper preparation and practice, which costs them later on.

But they have, of course, to get more ready and they can’t go straight away and say we will beat Max. That was a mistake, for example, Pierre Gasly thought he was as good as Max.

Max Verstappen has been one of the most successful drivers in the modern era, and will go down as one of the best in history if he continues to perform. The Dutch driver leads the championship this season and will be looking to win a fourth title.

Pierre Gasly solved handling issues in A524 by applying Esteban Ocon’ settings

Pierre Gasly has claimed that his teammate Esteban Ocon‘s settings have helped him avert an unexplainable handling issue with his car. Gasly has been improving race upon race since the Monaco Grand Prix after a slow start to the campaign.

We realised that at the start of the year, until Miami, we found out that there was a couple of things which weren’t right on my differential, and used the other side’s map and then the car felt a lot more together.

Alpine’s A524 was a struggling force at the start of the season and was not able to qualify beyond Q1 on multiple occasions. But a possible change in the differential settings of Gasly’s car to match that of Esteban Ocon‘s has caused a major shift in their fortunes.

Gasly has managed to finish within the points in four of the last five races and will be content with the team’s improving curve. He will now continue to extract performance out of the A524 in order to score more points for the team in the championship.
