Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue has announced that they will be seeking charges against a 14-year-old who hit and killed a bicyclist following the Melba fireworks show.

The teenager was driving an SUV, according to police, at approximately 10:45 p.m. on July 4, following the Melba fireworks show. The teen was driving south on Southside Blvd. near the Melba Rd. intersection when he struck an adult female who was riding her bicycle.

The teen drove for a short distance further after hitting the woman, then pulled over and went to locate his father before returning to the scene to speak with deputies. The victim, 34-year-old Kellei Bunn of Nampa, was taken by air transport to a Boise hospital, then transferred to Portland for further care.

Bunn died on July 30th, of her injuries. “This was a tragic situation that claimed the life of a young woman and will forever change the life of the 14-year-old who made a terrible decision to get behind the wheel without a license,” said Sheriff Kieran Donahue. “My heart goes out to the family and friends of the deceased and all of those involved in the incident.”
