BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — For the first time in 70 years, the annual Bogus Basin Ski Education Foundation's (BBSEF) annual Ski Swap will not be happening.
In a Facebook post, the organization cited the inability to properly social distance during the event, usually held at Expo Idaho, as the reason for the cancelation.
"Out of consideration for our customers and volunteers, the Bogus Basin Ski Education Foundation has made the extraordinarily difficult decision to postpone the annual Ski Swap," the post read.
The event normally garners nearly 1,700 hours of volunteer work over a four day period. Volunteers range from current and past members of BBSEF to Bogus Basin Ski Club and Ski Patrol. It is a major fundraising event for the BBSEF. Bogus Basin Ski Education Foundation’s mission is to provide access to competitive mountain sports programs for the youth of the Treasure Valley.
However, not all is lost for skiers and boarders this season. The Boise Ski Retailers Association, which included McU Sports, Greenwood's Ski Haus, Play It Again Sports, and Idaho Mountain Touring, will be hosting a ski sale and equipment exchange. The retailers will have a selection of equipment purchased specifically for the ski swap. The sale will be taking place November 6-8.
Additionally, the Bogus Basin Ski Education Foundation has already set the date for next year's annual ski swap, happening November 5-7, 2021 at Expo Idaho.
