BOISE, Idaho — 150 Idaho Foster Children spent the night in an Airbnb or short-term rental in 2022. The new data comes from a public records request made by CBS2.
A year prior, 16 foster children stayed in short-term rentals. Data on this issue was not tracked prior to 2021. CBS2 talked to Julie Sevcik with IDHW earlier this year. She told us,
There is a decrease of available services in our community to help meet the needs of children and help support parents. She said the department began struggling to find placements in October of 2021.
IDHW is actively recruiting foster families. They're specifically looking for families willing to take teenagers and those who have experience meeting the needs of children with challenging behaviors or physical needs.
If you're considering becoming a foster parent, call 211 for more information.
